Privacy policy

Last updated October 27, 2026. This policy explains what information BoyAndGirlNames (boyandgirlnames.com, “we”) collects when you use the site, why, and the choices you have.

The short version

  • You don't need an account, and we never ask for your name to browse.
  • Your saved names stay in your own browser. We never see them.
  • We use Google Analytics to count visits, and Google AdSense and Monetag to show ads. All of them use cookies.
  • If you contact us, we keep your message and email only to reply to you.

Information we collect

Saved names. When you tap ♥ on a name, it's stored in your browser's local storage on your device. It is never sent to us. Clearing your browser data removes it.

Votes. When you star (★) a name, we set a cookie with a random ID so you can only vote once per name and can undo your vote. We store that random ID with your vote, plus a one-way hash of your IP address that we use only to stop automated voting. We never store your IP address itself.

Contact form. When you send us a message, we store your name, email address, the topic, your message, the page you came from and a one-way hash of your IP address (to block spam). We use this only to read and reply to your message, and we delete messages we no longer need.

Analytics. We use Google Analytics to understand which pages are useful and how people find the site. Google Analytics uses cookies and collects information such as the pages you visit, how long you stay, your browser and device type and your approximate location (city level). We don't use it to identify you personally.

Server logs. Our hosting provider, Vercel, keeps standard technical logs (such as IP address, browser and the page requested) for security and to keep the site running.

Advertising and cookies

We show ads to keep the site free. Ads are served by Google AdSense and its partners, and by Monetag.

  • Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
  • Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
  • You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalized advertising at aboutads.info.

To learn how Google uses information from sites that use its services, see How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.

Monetag. Monetag uses cookies and similar technologies to show ads, limit how often you see the same ad, measure ad performance and prevent fraud. It collects information such as your IP address, browser and device type, approximate location and the pages you view. Some Monetag ad formats may open in a new tab or ask permission to send browser notifications; if you allowed notifications, you can turn them off at any time in your browser's site settings. See Monetag's privacy policy for details and your choices.

If you visit from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, you'll be asked for your consent before personalized ads and non-essential cookies are used, and you can change your choice at any time.

You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The site still works without them, though voting needs its cookie.

Photos and other services

Baby photos on the site are loaded from Unsplash's image service, which receives standard request information (such as your IP address) when your browser loads an image. Fonts are served with the site itself.

How we share information

We don't sell your personal information. We share it only with the service providers named above (Google, Monetag, Vercel, Unsplash, and Supabase, which stores votes and contact messages for us), or when the law requires it.

Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live (for example the EU, UK or California), you may have the right to access, correct or delete personal information we hold about you, or to object to how we use it. To make a request, use our contact form and choose “Privacy request”. We'll respond within 30 days.

California residents: we don't sell personal information as defined by the CCPA. Advertising cookies may count as “sharing” for cross-context advertising; you can opt out using the links in the advertising section above.

Children's privacy

This site is for parents and parents-to-be. It isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has sent us information, contact us and we'll delete it.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
